Academic Skills Accelerated Program (ASAP) PACE 131

While there are many summer programs in the region, 成人视频 Searight Program鈥檚 ASAP is designed to offer students the skills necessary in navigating current economic demands. GWU faculty will mentor students in the development of analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in multiple disciplines with an emphasis in Christian business ethics.

The courses will include Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security, Project Management, Economics and Personal Finance, Medical Terminology, Introduction to Agriculture and American History of Inventors. Students will learn broad concepts that impact society as well as business etiquette and life skills. Students will be introduced to high-demand careers in these disciplines.

Curriculum

What our students will learn!

Coupled with an emphasis on Christian business ethics and disciplinary concepts, the Academic Skills Accelerated Program (ASAP) will offer students opportunities for reality-based and hands-on learning. This will be accomplished through mentoring with 成人视频 faculty and networking with corporate CEOs from regional, national and international companies. Business etiquette and professional skills are emphasized. The program concludes with a field-study tour of a regional manufacturing facility.

Students who complete this program:

  • will learn to improve their AI and Cybersecurity skills
  • gain a better understanding of threat detection
  • learn how to manage projects efficiently using traditional and agile methods and discover
    how to effectively utilize AI in project management
  • understand the cascade of free enterprise, the stock market and budgeting
  • learn medical terminologies that may be useful in assisting our aging population and be
    introduced to the medical field
  • A snippet of American agriculture. Encourage innovation and creativity through exposing
    them to past innovators and American history
  • Field-study tour of the BMW automotive plant in Geer, SC.

Course Details

What to Expect

This summer camp is opened to students in grades 10 to 12 with a maximum enrollment of 20. It will start on June 9th to July 9th, 2026. Students will attend three hours in-person/online sessions on Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. 鈥 12:00 p.m. for five weeks, aggregating to 30 total hours of face-to-face lectures. Students will also complete online learning and research for additional 15 hours. The program will have 45 total hours. Lunch and snacks will be provided for students. The certificate is designed to be completed on July 9th with a brief graduation ceremony.

Classes will be held at the Pinnacle high school and if transportation is available at 成人视频. Students will be encouraged to bring laptops.

What You’ll Learn

As a student in the Master of Accountancy program, you will deepen your knowledge of the key functions of accounting and how it applies to economics, finance, international business, management, information systems, marketing, operations, statistics, and more. You will learn how to demonstrate leadership and business decision-making skills, while also gaining experience in the application of accounting concepts through internships, service opportunities, course projects, course simulations, and interaction with business leaders.

Available Programs

Master of Accountancy

In addition to the University鈥檚 prerequisites, the Master of Accountancy requires a minimum of 30 semester credit hours of graduate studies. The program is structured to prepare students for the significant changes that are impacting the accounting profession. The MAcc is recognized as the professional graduate degree designed to enhance effectiveness in upper-level accounting and financial positions in public accounting, private industry, or government. Courses are offered online to accommodate working professionals.

The 30-credit-hour curriculum can be completed in as few as five eight-week terms (10 months) taking two classes per term or as many as ten eight-week terms (20 months) taking one class per term, depending on the needs of each individual, and is offered in a convenient online format. The 36-credit-hour curriculum can be completed in six eight-week terms (12 months) taking two classes per term or as many as twelve eight-week terms (22 months) taking one class per term. Furthermore, the program鈥檚 rolling admissions enable the student to enroll and start at any of the six different term start dates each year. Based on the student’s needs, the five- or ten-term rotation of courses offers students the flexibility of entering the rotation at any point to progress through the program.

Graduate Business Certificate – Accounting

Accelerated Master of Accountancy

The Accelerated Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program allows 成人视频 undergraduate students to begin work in the MAcc program while completing their bachelor鈥檚 degree in accounting.

Qualified students may apply for admission to the Accelerated Master鈥檚 Program (AMP) in Accountancy during their junior year (or after 60 credit hours). If accepted, students can take up to six credit hours of graduate coursework to apply toward their MAcc degree and earn combination credit for these hours at the undergraduate level.

Courses in this program are taught online in eight-week terms to increase flexibility.

Graduates from the Godbold College of Business Bachelor of Science degree programs will be seamlessly admitted into the following programs: Master of Business Administration, Master of Sport Management, or International Master of Business within one year of graduation. Graduates from the Godbold College of Business Bachelor of Science in Accounting program will be seamlessly admitted into the Master of Accounting program within one year of graduation.鈥

Instructor Bios

Dr. Anthony Negbenebor is Assistant Vice President for Business Development and Partnerships, Dean Emeritus and Dover Chair of Business at the Godbold College of Business, 成人视频. He is also Professor of Economics and International Business, and Sam Walton Fellow and adviser to World Trade Club (WTC). Anthony received his Ph.D. from Mississippi State University. He completed summer studies on International relations at Universite De Paris (1), (Pantheon-Sorbonne) in Paris, France, and advance studies on Economic Development for Developing Nations at the London School of Economics, London, England.

Anthony is the current past President of ACBSP and Chair of Accreditation Governance Board. He has held several positions as Chair of the ACBSP Baccalaureate Board of Commissioners, Chair of ACBSP Marketing Committee, member of the ACBSP Board of Directors and is the ACBSP champion for 成人视频, where he led the accreditation efforts for the Godbold College of Business. With over 16 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Pillar is a dynamic academic administrator known for fostering innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to transformative educational experiences.

Dr. Pillar鈥檚 administrative career spans various leadership roles in academic operations, curriculum development, accreditation, and faculty affairs. Before joining 成人视频, he served as Associate Provost for Academic Affairs at Queens University of Charlotte. In this role, he spearheaded institutional initiatives that enhanced student engagement, retention, and academic outcomes. As the institutional liaison for accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), he successfully led the university鈥檚 decennial reaffirmation process, resulting in no recommendations for follow-up actions.

Before transitioning fully into administrative leadership, Dr. Pillar established himself as a respected faculty member and scholar. As a professor of environmental science and chemistry, he taught a wide range of interdisciplinary courses, mentored numerous student research projects, and conducted research on the sustainability of soil and water resources. His passion for global education led him to design and lead international study experiences to destinations such as Italy, Vietnam, Costa Rica, and Micronesia (Yap), where he facilitated an environmental experiential learning program that connected students with local ecosystems and sustainability practices., enriching student learning beyond the classroom. A lifelong learner and advocate for excellence, Dr. Pillar holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy with a focus on Environmental Chemistry from the University of Georgia. He earned his M.S. in Agronomy (Soil Science) from Kansas State University and his B.S. in Environmental Science (Soil Science and Hydrology) from the University of Minnesota. Teaching Specialization in the Classics

The Classical Education Certificate introduces educators and parents to the content, theory, and practice of classical education.

A 2024 market analysis found that 667,521 students in the United States were educated in 1,551 classical schools in 2023-24, in addition to home schools, microschools, and co-ops — up from 1,287 classical schools in 2019-20.

In addition to documenting a 4.8% annual growth rate in the number of classical schools between 2019-20 and 2023-24, the analysis projected that in 2035, over 1,400,000 students in the United States will be educated in 2,575 classical schools, in addition to home schools and other educational settings.

The burgeoning classical education field is varied and includes public charter schools, private schools, and different forms of home-based education. Some of these independent schools and home schools are faith-based, while others are non-sectarian.

The Classical Education Certificate is designed to help individuals flourish as educators in any of these settings. Whether you are considering a career in education, currently work as a staff member at a school, are educating your children at home, or are simply curious about classical education, the Classical Education Certificate can help you meet your personal and professional goals.

The Classical Education Certificate includes five eight-week courses that may be taken in any order. Courses are delivered in hybrid format which includes two hours of reading per week, along with a weekly one-hour virtual seminar discussion (Monday, 7:00-8:00 PM).

Description:
In the twenty-four centuries since the trial and death of Socrates, educators have looked to the Greek philosopher as a model and have found inspiration in his method of questioning, as well as in his search for wisdom — a search so ardent that he was willing to accept death for it.

In this course, students will read the speech that Socrates delivered at his trial as well as two dialogues in which he demonstrated his method. Students will also encounter contemporary examples of Socratic education and learn how to teach Socratic seminars.

In this course, students will encounter great myths and the most famous Greek drama (Oedipus), as well as portions of the epics of Homer and Virgil. Students will also learn how to make these great works come alive for the next generation.

By the end of this course, participants will understand the importance of myths, epics, and drama in classical education, grow in appreciation of the works of Homer, Virgil, and Sophocles, and consider how to bring great works of the imagination to life in contemporary educational settings.

The Greek philosopher and scientist Aristotle observed that all human beings wish to be happy. He wrote that good habits, or virtues, can help human beings flourish and attain the happiness they desire.

In this course, students will encounter writings on happiness and virtue by Aristotle, the Roman statesman and scholar Cicero, and other thinkers of the classical era. Students will also learn from contemporary writings that bridge the gap between the classical tradition and character education today.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, participants will understand the importance of good habits, or virtues, in classical education, grow in understanding of the writings of Aristotle and Cicero on virtue and human flourishing, and consider how to apply this legacy in contemporary educational settings.

Description:
John Henry Newman, a nineteenth-century English proponent of classical education, saw learning as symphonic, with each discipline, like a musical instrument, adding richness and depth to the others. Consider a tree: geometry tells us about the tree鈥檚 shape, biology tells us about the systems that sustain the tree鈥檚 life, chemistry tells us about the tree鈥檚 chemical components, and the fine arts proclaim the tree鈥檚 beauty. Newman believed that as we grow in appreciation of the symphonic nature of reality, our intellects are cultivated and flourish like a garden.

For two millennia, writers in the classical tradition have seen the liberal arts as pathways to this flourishing garden. Education in the liberal arts transpires, in part, through what is called the 鈥済reat conversation鈥 between classical authors, more recent writers, and people today. A young Frederick Douglass, for example, read a book of speeches by Cicero and others that fostered in him a yearning for freedom. Douglass鈥檚 autobiographical Narrative, in turn, moves and inspires readers today.

In this course, students will encounter classical writings on the liberal arts and the great conversation, and in doing so explore practical ways to cultivate the gardens of their own students鈥 minds.

By the end of this course, participants will understand the rich heritage of the liberal arts in the history of classical education, grow in understanding of how the liberal arts enhance learning by encouraging a variety of perspectives, and learn how to bring this liberating vision to bear in contemporary educational settings.

The founders of many classical schools in the United States have found inspiration in Dorothy Sayers, a twentieth-century English author who sought to revive classical primary and secondary education. Sayers believed that 鈥渢he sole true end of education is simply this: to teach men how to learn for themselves.鈥

In this course, students will reflect on Sayers鈥檚 鈥淟ost Tools of Learning鈥 and deepen their knowledge of the wealth of resources available to the contemporary classical educators who have followed in her wake. In doing so, students will learn the nuts and bolts fostering classical education in contemporary settings.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, participants will understand the importance of Dorothy Sayers in contemporary classical education, learn about the wealth of resources available to contemporary classical educators, and learn how to bring Sayers’s vision to bear in varied educational settings.

Jeff Ziegler is dean of academics at Pinnacle Classical Academy, a tuition-free public charter school in Shelby, N.C., and has worked as a teacher and administrator in classical charter schools for over two decades. Candi Sellers is a NC licensed teacher and holds several certifications as a dyslexia specialist. Candi Sellers, President of the International Dyslexia Association – North Carolina Branch and founder of the Instructional Hub. She is trained in the Orton-Gillingham instructional approach. Orton-Gillingham has been proven to increase reading and writing scores for students who struggle with dyslexia and dysgraphia concerns.

The Graduate Certificate in English provides working adults the opportunity to teach at the community college level, in an early college, and/or seek adjunct work in other university settings.

The program requires you to complete 18 credit hours and allows you to easily transfer into the online Master of Arts in English program. Students who have successfully completed 6 hours of coursework in the graduate certificate program may apply to enter the MA in English program. Interested students should submit an internal application to the English department chair; the application should include a brief statement of purpose.

Curriculum

What You’ll Learn

Students completing the graduate certificate in English do not need to choose a concentration, which is required of the MA in English program. In addition, students only enrolled in the graduate certificate will not complete the graduate capstone series. Upon approval by the English department faculty, certificate students may choose to complete the additional coursework needed to meet the requirements of the MA English program.

English Graduate Certificate

To be admitted into the Graduate Certificate in English program, the following admissions requirements must be met:

  1. 3.0 GPA is expected
  2. At least three references
  3. Student should possess a bachelor鈥檚 degree in English or similar field. If student does not possess a bachelor鈥檚 degree in English or similar field (ex. Communications, Literary Studies), then 12-15 hours of upper level English courses is required, approved by the program coordinators upon evaluating transcripts

Accelerated Master of Arts in English or Graduate Certificate 

The Accelerated Master of Arts in English program allows 成人视频 undergraduate students to begin work in the MA in English or Graduate Certificate in English program while completing their Bachelor of Arts in English degree. 

Qualified students may apply for admission to the Accelerated Master鈥檚 Program (AMP) in English during their junior year (or after 60 credit hours). If accepted, students can take nine credit hours鈥 worth of graduate coursework to apply toward their master鈥檚 degree or graduate certificate. Six of those hours can earn combination credit and satisfy elective requirements at the undergraduate level.
