news-category: Graduate programs Doctoral Candidates to Present National Webinar Through International Honor Society By Office of University Communications On December 4, 2020 Mallory Bricker and Shanda Jones Will Discuss Trauma-Responsive Instruction Two candidates in the 成人视频 Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program are presenting a webinar through Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education, in its Teacher Toolbox series. Mallory Bricker and Shanda Jones also have a publication in an upcoming KDP issue.The webinar is titled: Seven Strategies to Build a Trauma-Responsive Classroom. It will occur on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. Registration is free for the national event. Mallory Bricker, left, and Shanda Jones Trauma is a prevalent condition and a relevant topic for today’s schools, and trauma-responsive instruction is more important than ever before. As the global community is recovering from the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, teachers may want to consider implementing trauma-responsive classroom practices. Through this webinar, Bricker and Jones will provide seven strategies to build a supportive classroom environment for all students, no matter their background or past experiences. Strategies will be research-based and easily implemented. Topics include: Building relationshipsSetting expectationsPositive communicationGrowth mindsetAsset-based mindset Bricker is a high school math teacher and instructional coach in Marshville, N.C. She is researching the effects instructional coaching has on teacher perception and practice when working with trauma-affected students. Jones is an English language arts teacher in Spartanburg, S.C.
